The Danvers community is grieving the great loss of Mr. Chris Lynch, a much loved professor at St. John's Preparatory School who devoted more than three decades to the school.
Mr. Lynch's commitment to the Prep community was nothing less than remarkable from 1994, when he started his teaching career as a German instructor in the High School's World Languages Department. Generations of students were inspired by his love of German language and culture, which also opened doors to world awareness and respect. He not only influenced pupils' intellectual development but also their character and empathy via immersion experiences like service trips to Appalachia and his work with the Prep Leadership Institute.
Mr. Lynch's impact went far beyond the classroom. He preserved the events, milestones, and memories that distinguish student life as yearbook editor, capturing decades of Prep history. His meticulous eye for detail guaranteed that every graduate class carried with them a concrete memorial of their St. John's experience.
Apart from his scholarly and leadership efforts, Mr. Lynch freely gave his musical ability to the neighborhood as a member of SwingTown!, brightening many concerts and school activities with joy and enthusiasm. He gave of himself completely whether he was lecturing, coaching, arranging, or acting.
Colleagues recall him as very religious, committed, and considerate. Students remember his jokes, encouragement, and real interest in their life. For over thirty years, his presence became ingrained in St. John's Prep's very fabric—a constant and leading light.
Though he has returned home to God, his legacy lives on in every student he advised, every program he supported, and every life he touched. Together, the St. John's community mourns while still appreciating the gift of his life.
Give Chris permanent rest, Lord, and let your constant light shine on him.
