Spencer Tepe Death and Obituary – The community in Columbus, Ohio, is experiencing profound shock and sadness after the heartbreaking deaths of Dr. Spencer Tepe and his spouse, Monique Tepe, who were discovered fatally shot in their residence on December 30, 2025. This tragic finding has left family members, friends, coworkers, and neighbors seeking answers as law enforcement persists in following up on leads regarding what has been designated as a potential double homicide by authorities.
The Columbus Police Department reports that the deadly shootings are suspected to have taken place between around 2:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. on December 30. Officers were first sent to the Tepe home for a welfare check when Dr. Tepe failed to come to work, an unexpected absence that raised alarm among his colleagues. Upon their initial arrival, officers did not receive any response at the door.
Later that morning, friends and coworkers arrived at the residence to ensure the family was alright. Upon reaching the home, they allegedly heard the couple’s small children crying inside and noticed what seemed to be a body within the house. Police were contacted right away, and officers subsequently entered the home, where they discovered Dr. Spencer Tepe and Monique Tepe dead from gunshot injuries.
The Franklin County Coroner’s Office has classified both fatalities as homicides. Investigators confirmed that the couple’s two young children, aged 1 and 4, were found safe and unharmed within the house. Authorities indicated that there were no indications of forced entry, and no weapon was retrieved from the site, further complicating the investigation.
As of early January 2026, law enforcement has not disclosed any suspects, and the reason for the murders is still unknown. However, investigators are actively scrutinizing potential leads. On January 5, 2026, police released surveillance video capturing a “person of interest” walking in a nearby alley around the time the killings are thought to have occurred. Authorities have urged anyone who recognizes the individual to come forward and share any information that may assist in identifying them.
Officials have also reviewed past emergency calls related to the residence. These include a report of a domestic dispute from April 2025, which family members and police later clarified was connected to a disagreement involving a guest at a party, rather than the couple themselves. Moreover, a neighbor reported loud banging on the Tepe’s door on December 19, 2025, an event that is now being investigated again in connection with the murders.
Dr. Spencer Tepe was an alumnus of The Ohio State University and was held in high regard for his professional contributions and participation in community organizations. His friends and colleagues remembered him as committed, caring, and profoundly dedicated to both his career and his family. Monique Tepe is cherished as a nurturing mother and supportive partner whose influence positively impacted many individuals.
In the aftermath of this tragedy, a GoFundMe campaign has been created to assist the couple’s surviving children, ensuring their ongoing care and future requirements. As the investigation progresses, the Columbus community stands together in grief while holding onto the hope for justice and understanding in this sorrowful case.
