Megan Bates from Hobbs, New Mexico, along with Antwain Bates, has passed away, according to obituary news from Dallas, Texas.

 A couple from Dallas, Texas, has been named as the individuals discovered deceased in what appears to be a murder-suicide in Hobbs on January 9, 2026, as per details shared by relatives and local residents. The deceased were recognized as Megan Bates and Antwain “Ghotti” Bates.

Antwain Bates, better known by many as “Ghotti,” was a graduate of Alvarado High School, with his graduation occurring sometime between 1996 and 1998, according to acquaintances familiar with his history. The friend further described Megan and Antwain as flawed yet very human, highlighting their pursuit of help and spiritual support.

"I had the honor of praying with both of them, individually and together, and engaging in Bible studies. They put in considerable effort. Both of them sought my prayers, but the darkness wouldn’t release its grip on them. It’s devastating. It's a difficult situation, and I will keep praying for all those impacted by this tragedy."
