ELIZABETHTOWN — Authorities are looking into a deadly shooting that resulted in the death of a 15-year-old girl early Sunday morning, allegedly caused by another 15-year-old girl, as reported by the police department in Elizabethtown.
Officers arrived at approximately 2:30 a.m. in response to calls about a girl who had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest at the Lowe’s parking area situated at 100 Lowe’s Drive. Upon their arrival, they discovered a 21-year-old man, named Bryan Harbison, administering CPR to the injured girl. Another minor female was also present at the location.
Subsequent investigations revealed that both girls involved were aged 15.
Authorities stated that Harbison informed them he had met the girls through Snapchat and mistakenly thought the victim was 18 years of age. Harbison confessed to providing alcohol to the minors and transporting them to the parking lot so they could drink together.
During the course of the investigation, it was reported that the juvenile suspect acknowledged retrieving a firearm from the vehicle, aiming it at the victim, and firing it. At the moment of the incident, the victim was positioned in the backseat alongside Harbison, while the suspect occupied the driver's seat.
The victim was taken to a hospital, where she was declared deceased.
Police observed inconsistencies between the statements given by Harbison and the juvenile suspect regarding the acquisition of the gun. Harbison claimed that the firearm was kept in the glove box and that the suspect took it without his consent. Conversely, the suspect asserted that Harbison had placed the gun on the central console of the car and informed her that it was not loaded.
Following the inquiry, the juvenile suspect was apprehended and charged with murder. Harbison also faced arrest, charged with first-degree unlawful transaction with a minor as well as first-degree wanton endangerment.
The investigation is ongoing as officials continue to evaluate evidence and testimonies related to the shooting.
