 The Pure Barre Mechanicsburg community is grieving the passing of Alicia Shaffer, a committed member and a beloved figure in the community, who died on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, due to complications arising from brain tumors. Her absence has created a significant emptiness among friends, family, and all who experienced her extraordinary spirit. She was 36.



Alicia was well-recognized at Pure Barre Mechanicsburg for her steadfast commitment and enthusiasm. She was a familiar and motivating figure in the studio, known for her regular attendance and significant achievements, including the accomplishment of over 1,000 classes. In addition to her dedication to fitness, Alicia was appreciated for her creativity and thoughtfulness, frequently enhancing the studio’s ambiance with beautiful floral and table displays that showcased her attention to detail and her wish to make others feel included. Her sense of community and authentic concern for those around her contributed to the nurturing, supportive atmosphere that the studio exemplifies.

Her death followed a sudden and shocking health crisis. An emergency room visit led to the discovery of two brain tumors. Despite the medical team at Penn State Hershey Medical Center's efforts, complications from a biopsy ultimately resulted in her demise. Friends and relatives remember that even while hospitalized, Alicia’s personality remained vibrant—considerate, lively, and focused on the little things that gave her happiness.

In a profoundly heartfelt message, Alicia’s husband, Jason Shaffer, provided a tribute to the life and love they cultivated over 15 years. He characterized Alicia as his closest friend, soulmate, and unwavering source of support—a woman who prioritized others and illuminated every environment she entered. He reminisced about her kindness, intellect, humor, and the remarkable way she interacted with people, from close friends at Pure Barre to everyday encounters at places such as Wegmans. Jason underscored that Alicia held a sincere affection for everyone in her life and derived immense pleasure from sharing stories about the individuals she met daily.

Her presence had the power to elevate others, providing encouragement and fostering significant connections.
